COTTON PICKINS’
STANWOOD, WASHINGTON

To relocate closer to the center of Stanwood and acquire more space, the owners of Cotton Pickins’ sought Pelletier + Schaar to make that vision a reality. This space, once an active fire station, was converted into a quilting retail business. To transform the run down building once used as the Stanwood Fire Station, the existing flat roof was replaced with a new gabled roof. Large garage garage doors were replaced with windows and doors and inviting columns and trellises. Cotton Pickins’ offers sewing machines, myriad of fabrics, books, patterns and classes, which requires adequate space. Now, the structure has blossomed into a great business space for the owners to continue to grow. Adding to the appeal of more space, the front of the building gives a quaint, cottage look that reflects the quilting business.
